FAQs

How do we obtain our marriage license?

A marriage license is necessary to ensure your union is legal! You will need to obtain your license before the ceremony, and bring the license to the ceremony for completion.

As of April 2020, many offices offer online license application.

Timelines and requirements vary per location; these links may be helpful:

Can we write our own vows?

Yes! Your wedding celebration is the story of you as a couple. Your handwritten vows can be an integral part. There are many options for traditional vows to use as a reference, and I can help to guide your ideas. I will ask you to send your vows to me ahead of the ceremony so I don’t duplicate anything you want to promise each other!

Do you perform LGBTQ+ weddings?

YES. Happily, openly, joyfully, and wholeheartedly. Let’s strive for a world where couples don't have to consider this question when planning their celebrations.

What is the ceremony planning process?

We can schedule a brief call so I can introduce myself and address any questions you may have. Once hired, I will send you a questionnaire to craft a ceremony that feels right for you. We will connect again before the ceremony to clarify responses and confirm details. I’m generally available to answer questions throughout the process and am flexible about changes.

On the day of the event, I will arrive early to coordinate the ceremony elements and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Who are you ordained by?

I am a non-denominational minister ordained through the Universal Life Church, which is based in Modesto, California.

How long is a typical ceremony?

Ceremonies typically last between 15-30 minutes, depending on your preferences and the content you include. It’s up to you! I emphasize personalization, so no matter the length, it will rock.

Do we need a witness for our ceremony?

Yes!

In New York State, you need at least one witness who is over the age of 18 to sign your license. In NJ, you need two witnesses over the age of 18 to sign your license.

Can we add religious or cultural elements to our ceremony?

Absolutely. During our process, we will explore additional aspects of the ceremony and tailor the level of religious or spiritual significance accordingly. I am very comfortable and familiar with including these important elements.
